Moisturizing Skin - August 31st, 2009

One thing I’ve noticed from trying tons of different acne products is that most of them dry out your skin.  All that acid that’s supposed to treat your acne spots may actually worsen it by drying it out.

Your skin needs to be properly moisturized for it to be healthy and acne-free.  Dehydrated skin has more negative side effects than you’d expect.  Dehydrated skin can cause and worsen acne.  Sure, it’s good to treat specific trouble spots with a touch of salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, but never more than enough to dry out the dirty oil causing the problem.  Healthy, moisturized will prevent acne as well as help acne heal itself more quickly.  Even if you use a moisturizer on dried-out skin, it’s not as effective as having already moisturized skin.

When you try out acne products, immediately ditch that ones that leave your skin feeling rough and itchy.  If the product leaves your face dry and white, it’s definitely a no-no!  If your skin is the oily type, these products may not be as bad.  But for those with normal to dry skin, you will want to be extra careful with which products you use.
